Principal's Message

 

Hello Klahowya Families and Students,

 

Congratulations to all of our Spring Athletes! We have several High School sports going to District and State competitions. We wish them good luck. Also, next week is the final week for Middle School sports. We congratulate all of our Middle Level Athletes on a great season!

 

Next week we will start Smarter Balanced Testing for students in grades 6,7,8,10 and 11. Please see the newsletter below for more information. Tonight is the KSS Talent Show at 6 p.m. in the auditorium. There are several concerts coming up too, be sure to come support our performers. Please also show your support for High School Boys Soccer and High School Girls Softball in their competitions this evening! 

 

Senior Prom is a week from Saturday at Gold Mountain Golf Club on May 25th. There is no school on Monday, May 27th, in honor of Memorial Day. Mark your calendars for May 29th, Eagle Scholars starts at 5 p.m. and Senior Awards are at 6:30 p.m.

Attendance/Tardies/Early Dismissals

Early Dismissal

Send a note with your student stating the time of dismissal, reason and name of person who will be picking up student. Student should, when possible, arrange for dismissal through the Attendance Office before school starts.  Otherwise, we ask for at LEAST 30 minutes notice.  Remember that the weather is getting nicer, and classes go outside. Calling ahead will avoid trying to track down a student that might be at lunch, an assembly or outside for PE. Students who do not check out through attendance are TRUANT.

Smarter Balanced Testing

Students will be testing from May 20th - May 31st. Please see the following Smarter Balanced Testing schedule. Students, be sure to come to school well rested with headphones/earbuds  and charged chromebooks.

Each year, the Kitsap County Bar Association sponsors a Law Day Essay Contest for Kitsap County students. The 2024 Law Day theme this year was “Voices of Democracy.” All High School and Middle School students residing or attending school in Kitsap County were eligible to participate. Essays were judged on four criteria: Originality of Thought, Depth of Reasoning, Clarity of  Expression, and Organization. Nice work students!

CKSD is Looking for 24-25 Student Representatives to the Board of Directors 

The Central Kitsap Board of Directors has created a non-voting, advisory board position for up to two Student Representatives enrolled in a Central Kitsap School District High School. The CKSD Board of Directors recognizes the value of student representation on the school board so that student voice and input is included in the board’s work. Students, please fill out the attached form if you are interested in this postion. The applications are due May 31st. 

 

Congratulations Class of 2024 Former Silver Ridge Elementary Students

Silver Ridge staff and students are excited to celebrate with you on June 12, 2024! Staff members would love to visit with you about your high school experiences and what you are hoping for in the future! 

 

Please join the staff and other CK graduates in the library at 8:15 a.m. If you like, bring your yearbook! We will serve a light breakfast and have time to reacquaint yourself with staff members, retirees  and former classmates.

Class of 2028 News

Klahowya’s first ever 8th Grade Dance  is coming up on June 7, 7-9 P.M.  The Dance–open only to 8th grade students– is intended to be fun and celebratory, marking the transition from Middle School to High School. You can help make this inaugural event special, and help cover the cost of the D.J. and refreshments, by supporting the Class of 2028 in the following ways:

• Purchase special “Class of 2028” T-shirts, hoodies, and stickers. You can buy a t-shirt or hoodie in either black (the 8th grade school color) or white (the 9th grade school color). Or, grab one of each! Even though the Dance is free, students still need to turn in a Dance Contract which includes a parent or guardian signature.  These contracts will be on blue paper (as opposed to the white contracts for MS Social #3).

Middle School Social

All Middle School students, 6th through 8th grade,  are invited to join us for The Greatest Show, our final Social of the year on Friday, May 31, 2:45-4:45.  There will be music, games, face painting, a cake walk, snacks, and much  more!  The cost is $7 with an ASB card/$10 without. Beginning this Monday, we will be collecting donations of individually wrapped candy, cake mixes, and frosting.  All items can be turned into the main office.

Middle School Track & Field Pre-Season Merchandise Order

If you are planning to participate in MS Track & Field in September, and would like to have your merchandise the first day of school, this is your chance.  We are selling T-shirts and Hoodies through Thursday, May 23.  All merchandise will be available the week of June 10.  Here is the link to order:

Parchment and Final Transcripts

The last day of school is June 18, but final grades are not posted until June 26. Seniors, please log into Parchment  and request a transcript to be sent to:

Your email address so you have a transcript for your own records

Your final college decision, as all colleges will want to see your final transcript.

Select “Hold for grades” and it will be sent after final grades are posted.  

Remember, Parchment is free to you as a student, but once you graduate, Parchment is no longer free and you will have to pay ≈ $5 for transcripts.

Summer Internship Opportunities

HCSEG has a Climate Resilience Internship available now for high school students!  This is an awesome PAID summer internship, teaching students valuable skills for environmentally related careers through hands-on activities in the outdoors.
