Principals Message
Hello Klahowya Families and Students,
This week was exciting for our staff and students! We began the week with a wonderful It's Your Future Fair where Klahowya students explored career and future opportunities. Additionally, this week students and staff showed their school spirit by dressing as bikers, surfers, in suits and boots, Barbie Pink and even in class colors. Today we had an amazing Homecoming Assembly and are looking forward to the Homecoming Events this weekend.
As a reminder, the High School Homecoming Dance runs from 7-10 pm on Saturday 10/21/23. We are excited to see our high school students celebrate together! There will be a professional photographer at the homecoming dance. (Students should leave bags at home or in vehicles and they need to bring photo identification.) There is no re-entry to this event.
On Tuesday 10/24, Picture Retakes will occur in the Commons from 7:30-9:00 and the Middle School Social for students in grades 6-8 will also happen after school from 2:45-4:45 pm.
Next week we are excited to welcome families into our school for student-led conferences. As a reminder, we do not have school on Thursday 10/26 and Friday 10/27 for conferences. If you have not yet scheduled a conference, please contact your student's academy teacher for more information.
During Conferences next week, our school is excited to host several mini classes for parents and guardians. If you are wondering about the College Application process, how to set limits on your student's Chromebook and even finding Mental Health supports for your student... you should check out these exciting opportunities HERE.
We hope to see you on campus next week!

Principal

We will meet every Wednesday to spend time on the beautiful trails surrounding our school, November 8-March 6, between 3 PM and 4 PM. All paces are welcome! Unlike a regular sports season, students are welcome to come every week, a couple of times a month, or before or after their Winter Sports season. To sign up, go to Final Forms under Winter 1. While Off Season Conditioning is open to Middle School athletes, we are also looking for some High School Managers. If you have any questions, contact Coach Leigh at [email protected].

Haunted Social
The Middle School ASB is excited to present the Haunted Social on Tuesday, October 24. There will be music, a cakewalk, games, a selfie station, and even quiet tables for those students who want a break from the action. Students will exit the rear of the building immediately after school and line up outside the doors. There won´t be time to change; while the theme is spooky, this is not a costume party. Save those costumes for Halloween! Questions? Email [email protected]

Can you fluently read, write, speak, and listen in a language other than English?
If you are a student in grades 7 through 12 in Central Kitsap School District (fall testing is only for high school), you can earn high school credit in a world language by successfully passing district-approved assessments and demonstrating your language proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in the language. Assessments are available for many different world languages, and every effort will be made to provide assessments in any language requested. Languages less common in our region will likely be offered in the Spring.
Are you ready to take this test?
Students should reflect on whether or not they are ready to sit for the test. They should review the "I can..." statements on the student FAQ documents as well as visit the link at https://avantassessment.com/sample-tests to self assess if they have the level of proficiency needed to complete the test.
What is the benefit of taking this test?
Students may:
· Earn proficiency-based high school credits and meet the world language credit requirement for graduation.
· Qualify for the Seal of Biliteracy on their diploma.

Senior Morphs!!!
It's that time of year! We need your photos for the Senior Morph video that will be unveiled during the Moving Up Assembly in June. We need four photos from you. A baby photo, an elementary photo, a middle school photo and a senior photo. It is best if these are in JPG format, but TIFF and PNG work as well. To have the highest quality morph, make sure your head is roughly the same size in each picture, you are alone in the photo and it is high quality. (Typically, these photos should each be larger than 1 MB in size. 2 MB or higher is preferred.) Make sure you label each photo with your first and last name!!!
This is all due by Friday February 23rd. If you don't submit by then, you run the risk of not being in the Senior Morph Video. Click on this link.
Picture Retake Day Is October 24th
Quality School Portraits will be here on Tuesday, October 24th from 7:30 - 9:30 a.m. to complete student photos. If your student has not had their picture taken yet, please have them listen for the announcement and get their photo taken. If you are unhappy with the photos you previously ordered, please have your student bring the complete photo packet with them on that day for retakes.
It is imperative that we capture a photo for each student for identification and yearbook purposes. Thank you!
Life Skills Screener
We thank you and your family for being our valued partners as we work together to educate students in our district. As you may already be aware, last school year we asked students to complete a Life Skills Screener so they could tell us what skills they feel confident about and which ones they need additional help with. We will be giving the same Life Skills Screener again this Fall on Tuesday, October 24th.
You can find links to preview the survey content on the Central Kitsap School District website located here. If you have any questions about the Student Life Skills Screener, please don’t hesitate to contact us. For more information, please visit Central Kitsap Schools.

The Healthy Youth Survey for CKSD students includes questions related to physical activity and diet, unintentional and intentional injury, substance use, abuse, risk and protective factors, and access to school-based services. Survey results are used by schools, communities, and state agencies to plan programs to support our youth and reduce their risks.

Participation in the survey is voluntary and the students’ answers are anonymous. There are no codes or information used to match a survey to a student.
