Distinguished Readers

Meeting Times

Distinguished Readers meet EVERY Friday during lunch in the library conference room.

About the Program

The Central Kitsap Distinguished Reader program encourages students in grades 6 through 12 to explore, appreciate, and read quality literature. The program recognizes and rewards students who are independent readers.

Each school year, Distinguished Reader students are recognized at a district-wide ceremony. Students from all CK secondary schools who completed the DR program attend.

Requirements

  • Read 10 books a year
  • When you finish reading a Distinguished Reader book, make an appointment with the KSS librarian to discuss your book.
  • Tracking Sheets are available in the library, or download here. After your book discussion, the Librarian will initial tracking sheet and enter into the D.R. Database

Required novels read for English or other classes will not count toward the D. R. program (e.g. Night, To Kill a Mockingbird).

A book used for an independent book report in any class will qualify for the D. R. program as long as you get permission from the librarian.

Students are encouraged to check out books over the summer and to discuss them with the KSS Librarian when school starts in the fall.
