Principal's Message

Hello Klahowya Families and Students,

Today we were honored to celebrate “Purple Up Day” to recognize the Month of the Military Child. Students of military service members regularly face challenges. On average a military family moves every two to three years and frequently has a parent or guardian away on deployment. We appreciate and support the unique challenges that come with being a family member of someone serving in the military.

KSS students have completed their course registration for the 24-25 school year. You can now check PowerSchool to review your student's course selections by having your student log in to PowerSchool. On the far left side of the screen choose “Class Registration”. Your student's 24/25 schedule requests should appear. If for some reason your student missed registration, we will be holding registration make-ups.

Next week DECA and LEO Clubs will host a Blood Drive for our students on Tuesday, April 23rd. Donors must be 16 years or older. Students aged 16 and 17 must have a signed parent permission form to participate.

Attendance/Tardies/Early Dismissals

Early Dismissal

Send a note with the student stating time of dismissal, reason, and name of person who will be picking up student. Students should, when possible, arrange for dismissal through the Attendance Office before school starts. Now that the weather is getting nicer, we ask that you give us at least 30 minutes to get your student(s) up front. This will avoid trying to track down a student that might be at lunch, an assembly or in P.E.

Students who become ill during school will need to call home from the Attendance Office and/or the Nurse’s office. If students do not check out through Attendance this is considered truancy. ~Ms. T. Attendance Secretary

Advanced Placement Testing

Hello AP Students. AP Testing is right around the corner from May 6th - May 16th. Please visit our website for more information. This information is also posted in your Google Classrooms. Attached is an important letter for your convenience. If you are taking an afternoon exam and riding a bus home, you will need to arrange transportation as the afternoon exams usually do not end prior to the bus departure.

DECA and LEOS Club Student Blood Drive

With help from the National Honor Society, DECA and LEO Clubs have organized a student Blood Drive through Bloodworks Northwest. This is scheduled for Tuesday, April 23rd from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Students 16 and older may be eligible to donate blood. Our 16 and 17 year old students will need a parent permission slip in order to donate. Please sign up during 1st or 3rd lunch in the commons.

Class of 2026 ASB Car and Motorcycle Show

Klahowya Class of 2026 Car and Motorcycle Show is on April 20th from 11 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at Destination Harley Davidson in Silverdale. See the attached flyer.

CKSD is Looking for 24-25 Student Representatives to the Board of Directors

The Central Kitsap Board of Directors has created a non-voting, advisory board position for up to two Student Representatives enrolled in a Central Kitsap School District High School.The CKSD Board of Directors recognizes the value of student representation on the school board so that student voice and input is included in the board’s work. Students, please fill out the attached form if you are interested in this postion.

Cooking and Community Club Small Things Drive

Cooking and Community Club would like to thank those Eagle families who contributed to our toiletry drive. All donations went to a local women's shelter. Thank you again for your generosity. ~Ms. Steedman

Summer School

Summer School Information is posted on the CKSD website: https://ckschools.org/programs/summer_programs

PE courses MUST BE started by June 3.
Students taking a PE course are not able to enroll in any other courses
Registration closes on July 12.

Horizon Air Summer Intern Program

The Horizon Air summer internship program gives high school students the opportunity to see the day-to-day operation of the Maintenance & Engineering and Flight Operations divisions at Horizon Air. These amazing internships are open to our students because of our district’s partnership with Horizon Air and Alaska Airlines! ALL INTERNS WILL BE PAID. Applications opened APR 8. Sign up right away for information directly from Horizon Air Group. Must be 16 by JUN 1, 2024.

PNW Kiwanis Youth Law Enforcement Camp

Hosted at WSP Academy in Shelton.

Open to current sophomores and juniors who have a strong interest in a law enforcement career.

Youth Mental Health First Aid

Special announcement from Kitsap Strong! Based on the recommendations of our Youth Leadership Team (students representing 10 local high schools), we've teamed up with WSU Extension, PCHS, KMHS, and KPHD to offer two free training sessions in Youth Mental Health First Aid - Saturday, May 11th and Wednesday, May 29th, 10-4:30 pm. This comprehensive training will teach community members how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges among adolescents ages 12-18. It's ideal for educators, coaches, parents, and mentors.

Middle School Football - First Home Game

MS Football's first home game is on Wednesday, April 24th vs Hawkins Middle School. Varsity will begin at 4:00 p.m. and JV will follow. The snack-shack will also be open for this competition so make sure to come to support the Football team positively in the stands.

NEW Middle School 7th Grade Immunization Requirement

This is a notice to all current 6th grade families. All students entering 7th grade must have received a Tdap booster on or after 10 years of age or have an exemption form on file before the first day of school. If you need an appointment with a provider, schedule it now; wait times can be lengthy. If your student needs a sports physical, your provider may be able to give the Tdap booster at the same time.
