Principal's Message

 

Hello Klahowya Families and Students, 

 

We held our first ever Klahowya Spring Conferences this week. Thank you families for making time to come visit with your student’s teachers, we appreciate your partnership. It was great to see you! 

 

We have several opportunities in March to celebrate our talented students. March 1st - 3rd our students are performing in Frozen Jr. at the CK Performing Arts Center. See more information below. March 5th our KSS Choir is performing at 7:00 p.m. and on March 6th our KSS Band is also performing at 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium. 

 

Seniors, there is a mandatory meeting March 26th, during Academy (10:40-11:10). This will be held in our auditorium, caps and gowns will be handed out after, don’t miss out.

 

As a reminder, Monday, March 4th, is now a regular school day.

Attendance/Tardies/Early Dismissals

In complying with state law, students are expected to be present at school and on time to class. Parents/guardians may call the attendance office 24 hours a day to report or excuse a students absence. When leaving a message let us know your students name, your relationship to the student, the date of the absence and the reason for the absence, 360-662-4031.

Students may also give the Attendance Office a signed written note from parent/guardian with the same information. You may also email the Attendance Office at [email protected]. 

We have an automated call-out system that places a call in the evening to the homes of students who have missed one or more classes during the day.

 

CK Performing Arts Presents Frozen Jr.

Have you bought your tickets yet for Klahowya Drama Club's presentation of Frozen Jr.? This community production is a partnership with Dance Ensemble Northwest and the Central Kitsap Performing Arts Center. Come enjoy the singing, dancing and acting from our talented Klahowya students and guest dancers. Tickets are $15 ($10 with ASB card) and are available online at CKPAC.org.

Seniors The End Of The Year Is Quickly Approaching!

There is a MANDATORY senior meeting on Tuesday, March 26th in the auditorium from 10:40-11:10. Cap & Gown pick up will directly follow this meeting. Check Google Classroom for a newsletter with all upcoming dates and important information regarding graduation and prom. Please see Ms. Watland if you have any questions.

High School Tolo Dance 

High School students are you ready to dance the night away? Mark your calendars for Friday, March 16th from 7:00-10:00 p.m. for the 2024 TOLO dance. The theme is Emerald City. Tickets go on sale Wednesday, February 28th and cost $12 with an ASB card, $15 without ASB, and $15 for a guest pass. See you there!

Scholarship Newsletter

Please see this week’s Scholarship Newsletter for information on scholarships, financial aid, and colleges. Pay special attention to all of the local scholarships and the OC Foundation scholarships.

 

UW Nurse Camp

UW Nurse Camp is a week-long camp at UW Seattle campus from July 15th-19th where campers learn early hands-on skills in patient care, receive mentorships from current UW nursing students, shadow and learn from current nurses in varying specialties on-site at UWMC, and create connections with other students with similar goals and interests. Must be 16 by the start of camp.  Sophomore and Juniors, see your Google Classroom for more details. Applications due April 15th. 

 

Healthcare Career Camp

Olympic College, the Marvin Williams Recreation Center, and Virginia Mason Franciscan Health are holding a Healthcare Career Camp on Saturday, April 13th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Marvin Williams Recreation Center (MWRC). The students will have the opportunity to visit booths with real healthcare professionals, participate in simulations, and learn about what prerequisites are necessary to enroll in various programs. The first 50 students to register will get a free t-shirt and there will be opportunities to win prizes. This event is open to parents as well – they will be invited into breakout rooms where they can learn about financial aid and grant opportunities.  See flyer for more information and to register.

 

World Language Proficiency Test for CKSD Students

Test Date: April 17th

Registration Closes: March 27th

Can you fluently read, write, speak, and listen in a language other than English? 

If you are a student in grades 7 through 12 in Central Kitsap School District, you can earn high school credit in a world language by successfully passing district-approved assessments and demonstrating your language proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in the language. Assessments are available for many different world languages, and every effort will be made to provide assessments in any language requested.

Horizon Air Summer Intern Program

The Horizon Air summer internship program gives high school students the opportunity to see the day-to-day operation of the Maintenance & Engineering and Flight Operations divisions at Horizon Air.  These amazing internships are open to our students because of our district’s partnership with Horizon Air and Alaska Airlines! 

ALL INTERNS WILL BE PAID. 

Applications open APR 8. Sign up right away for information directly from Horizon Air Group. Students will then be notified when they open their system to receive applications on April 8th. Must be 16 by June 1, 2024. 

 

Navigating High School and Dual Credit Night March 18th

Navigating High School~ Families are invited to attend our Navigating High School Night here at KSS on Monday, March 18th, from 6:00-7:00 p.m. All 8th grade students and families are encouraged to attend to learn more about selecting the right classes for a smooth transition to high school. Students in high school who need more detailed information about selecting courses should also attend.

 

Dual Credit Information Night~ Klahowya has many opportunities for students to get college credits while in high school. If you are interested in learning more, please attend Dual Credit Information Night on Monday, March 18th from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the KSS Auditorium.

Class of 2028 Merchandise Fundraiser

The Class of 2028 is now selling T-shirts, hoodies, and stickers, to raise money to support class activities, including Klahowya’s first ever 8th Grade Dance, on June 7th.  You can buy a t-shirt or hoodie in either black (the 8th grade school color) or white (the 9th grade school color).  Or, grab one of each!  Click here for a link to the order form. Middle School Social - March 13
The next Middle School Social is coming up on March 13, and tickets are on sale NOW!  The cost is $6 with ASB card/$8 without.  The theme is Sports or Shorts. Students need to turn in a completed Contract, signed by a parent or guardian, at the time of purchase.  Contracts are available at the Bookkeeper's Officer and in students' "Class of..." Google Classroom.

 

Middle School ASB is still looking for donations of cake mixes, frosting, and bags of candy for prizes.  Donations can be turned in at the Main Office, and are needed by March 7.  Questions?  Contact Leigh Hampton at [email protected].

 

Middle School Cross Country

Spring Sports are right around the corner.  If you enjoy being outside in the fresh air, and want a sport that allows you to be a part of a team, while competing as an individual, then Cross Country might be for you.  All paces and levels of experience are welcome!  If you are thinking about joining, but haven't signed up, you should do so right away!  Even if you don't have a physical yet, you will still receive important information about the upcoming season.  You can direct all questions to Coach Leigh at [email protected].

 

Middle School History Club Ends March 8th
March 8th will be the final day for MS History Club. We will be meeting in room 216 from 2:40-3:30 p.m.

Is your students looking for something to do after school? Did you know that we offer 15 clubs? We are excited to announce that we have recently added: Esports for both Middle School AND High School, Jesus Club, and Maker Space Club!

High School And Middle School Athletics

We have had a rainy/snowy start to the Spring sports season.  Thank you to coaches, athletes and parents for being flexible.  

 

The HS Spring Sports Parent meeting will be held in the Main gym on Tuesday March 5th, at 5pm.  You will hear from our Athletic trainer, ASB Bookkeeper and the Athletic Director.  Sports specific meetings will be scheduled before or after this meeting.  Please check communication from coaches via Final Forms.
