KSS High School Math Team Qualifies for State
Klahowya’s High School Math Team turned in yet another outstanding performance at the WSMC Region 10 Math Competition on March 6th. Congratulations to these students for qualifying for state in the following events:
The team of Carter Rickabaugh, Quinn Rogers, and Carson Wintch took first place in both the Team Problem and Topical Problems events.
In the Team Problem event, Franklin Morgan and Drew Franklin took 2nd place.
In the Topical Problems event, Matthew Stone and Thomas Tetreault took 2nd, Kierstin Youtsey and Draven Cook took 3rd, and Thatcher Wise, Myles Peterson, and Will Schweitzer took 4th place.
Carter Rickabaugh, Thatcher Wise, and Kierstin Youtsey also qualified for State in the individual Knowdown event by taking first through third places.
These students will be representing KSS at the State Competition, which will take place at CWU in Ellensburg on April 20th, 2024.
State Knowledge Bowl Competition
The following students will be representing Klahowya at the state Knowledge Bowl Competition on March 23rd: Kyle Bardwell, Alison Fletcher, Maggie Keenan, Myles Peterson, Blake Robinson, and Quinn Rogers. Klahowya students never cease to amaze us! Go Eagles!

KSS Running Start Info Sessions
Have you considered applying to Olympic College's Running Start program for 2024-2025?
Are you a current 10th or 11th grader who is on track with high school credits?
Do you have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 - 3.0?
If you answered YES to each of these questions, please attend Dual Credit Night MAR 18 (see note below)
KSS Running Start information sessions will be held on the following dates in Room 125: APR 10, APR 13, APR 17 and APR 20. Counselors will provide students with an overview and answer your questions.
Navigating High School and Dual Credit Night March 18th
Navigating High School~ Families are invited to attend our Navigating High School Night here at KSS on Monday, March 18th, from 6:00-7:00 p.m. All 8th grade students and families are encouraged to attend to learn more about selecting the right classes for a smooth transition to high school. Students in high school who need more detailed information about selecting courses should also attend.
Dual Credit Information Night~ Klahowya has many opportunities for students to get college credits while in high school. If you are interested in learning more, please attend Dual Credit Information Night on Monday, March 18th from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the KSS Auditorium.
Course Selection for 2024-25 School Year
This week, high school students watched a course selection video and received a checklist and a customized course selection form. Over the next few weeks students will be discussing recommendations from teachers, reviewing their credit status and their High School and Beyond Plan to select the appropriate classes for next year. Counselors are available to students to answer questions during Academy and 1st and 3rd lunches March 13-22nd.
Course Selection Forms WITH GUARDIAN SIGNATURE are DUE and students will enter courses in PowerSchool during class on their assigned date:
Current 8th grade—Monday, March 25 in Science
Current 9th grade—Tuesday, March 26 in English
Current 10th grade—Wednesday, March 27 in English
Current 11th grade—Thursday, March 28 in English
Our current 6th and 7th grade students will be selecting courses in April after Spring Break. Information coming soon!
World Language Proficiency Test for CKSD Students
Test Date: April 17th
Registration Closes: March 27th
Can you fluently read, write, speak, and listen in a language other than English?
If you are a student in grades 7 through 12 in Central Kitsap School District, you can earn high school credit in a world language by successfully passing district-approved assessments and demonstrating your language proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in the language. Assessments are available for many different world languages, and every effort will be made to provide assessments in any language requested.

PNW Kiwanis Youth Law Enforcement Camp
Hosted at WSP Academy in Shelton.
Open to current sophomores and juniors who have a strong interest in a law enforcement career.
