Principal's Message

 

Hello Klahowya Families and Students, 

Klahowya Spring Conferences are right around the corner. Conferences will take place on February 29th and March 1st. There is no school on Thursday, February 29th or Friday, March 1st to allow for conferences. 

 

Spring conferences on Thursday, February 29th, focus on providing support structures to students who need additional help. Families of students attending these conferences are receiving a phone call home with a personal invitation to schedule a conference. We would like students to attend these conferences. 

 

Most teachers will be available from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 1st for in person drop-in conferences. Each teacher will have a paper sign-up schedule posted outside of their classroom door on Friday morning with appointment slots. Families are welcome to visit one or more teachers through these sign up forms.  We look forward to seeing you on campus.  If you have questions about conferences, please feel free to call the main office at 360-662-4000. 

 

Last night the school board revised our school calendar. Monday, March 4th, is now a school day. Hopefully we won't have any additional weather cancellations!

Attendance/Tardies/Early Dismissals

Athletic Code: A student in athletics must be in attendance at school the full day on the day of the practice or contest unless they have a note verifying the absence was due to an appointment with a physician and/or this physician approves their participation.

The student must participate in all courses and classroom activities. Exceptions must be made with the coach and a representative of the building eligibility board.  If your student has a doctor appointment, please ask the physician for a note to excuse your students absence.

Seniors Mark Your Calendars!!!!!

West Sound Tech “Explore Your Future”

10th and 11th graders, come out to the "Explore Your Future" free community event on February 26th from

5-7 p.m. at the Kitsap Pavilion. (Please note that this is an updated date and place).

 

UW Nurse Camp

UW Nurse Camp is a week-long camp at UW Seattle campus from July 15th-19th where campers learn early hands-on skills in patient care, receive mentorships from current UW nursing students, shadow and learn from current nurses in varying specialties on-site at UWMC, and create connections with other students with similar goals and interests. Must be 16 by the start of camp.  Sophomore and Juniors, see your Google Classroom for more details. 

 

Healthcare Career Camp

Olympic College, the Marvin Williams Recreation Center, and Virginia Mason Franciscan Health are holding a Healthcare Career Camp on Saturday, April 13th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Marvin Williams Recreation Center (MWRC). The students will have the opportunity to visit booths with real healthcare professionals, participate in simulations, and learn about what prerequisites are necessary to enroll in various programs. The first 50 students to register will get a free t-shirt and there will be opportunities to win prizes. This event is open to parents as well – they will be invited into breakout rooms where they can learn about financial aid and grant opportunities.  See flyer for more information and to register.

 

Horizon Air Summer Intern Program

The Horizon Air summer internship program gives high school students the opportunity to see the day-to-day operation of the Maintenance & Engineering and Flight Operations divisions at Horizon Air.  These amazing internships are open to our students because of our district’s partnership with Horizon Air and Alaska Airlines! 

ALL INTERNS WILL BE PAID. 

Applications open APR 8. Sign up right away for information directly from Horizon Air Group. Students will then be notified when they open their system to receive applications on April 8th. Must be 16 by June 1, 2024. 

 

Navigating High School / Dual Credit Night is March 18th

Families are invited to attend our Navigating High School and Dual Credit Informational Night here at KSS on Monday, March 18th at 6:00 p.m. All 8th grade students and families are encouraged to attend our Navigating High School event to learn more about selecting the right classes for a smooth transition to high school, this runs from 6 - 7 p.m. Students in high school who need more detailed information about selecting courses should also attend.

 

Klahowya has many opportunities for students to get college credits while in high school. If you are interested in learning more, please attend Dual Credit Informational Night on Monday, March 18th from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the KSS Auditorium.

PCHS Immunization Clinic

Here is some great news! There are monthly childhood immunization outreach clinics at PCHS’s Silverdale clinic location. See the attached flyer. 

 

8th Grade Only Dance June 7th

The Class of 2028 is now selling T-shirts, hoodies, and stickers, to raise money to support class activities, including Klahowya’s first ever 8th Grade Dance, on June 7th.  You can buy a t-shirt or hoodie in either black (the 8th grade school color) or white (the 9th grade school color).  Or, grab one of each!  Click here for a link to the order form. We are still looking for family members who would like to be a part of the Planning Committee for the 8th grade dance.  The first meeting will be on Tuesday, February 27th, at 5:30 in the KSS Library. Middle School Cross Country

Spring Sports are right around the corner.  If you enjoy being outside in the fresh air, and want a sport that allows you to be a part of a team, while competing as an individual, then Cross Country might be for you.  All paces and levels of experience are welcome!  If you are thinking about joining, but haven't signed up, you should do so right away!  Even if you don't have a physical yet, you will still receive important information about the upcoming season.  You can direct all questions to Coach Leigh at [email protected].

 

Middle School Social #2 March 13th!

The Middle School Social is right around the corner. We are looking for donations of cake mixes and tubs of frosting. Students can drop off donations in Mrs. Steedman's room #400, or in the Main Office, between February 26th and March 7th. If you have any questions, contact Leigh Hampton at [email protected].

 

Middle School History Club Ends March 8th
March 8th will be the final day for MS History Club. We will be meeting in room 216 from 2:40-3:30 p.m.
