Principal's Message

Hello Klahowya Families and Students,

It was great to see the sun for a few days. Hope you had a chance to enjoy the nice weather. Spring sports for our middle school students started this week and I know our students are looking forward to some longer lasting sunshine.

This week students in grades 8-11 began choosing classes for next year. Monday evening our Student Service Center hosted Navigating High School and Dual Credit Night. Many students and families took advantage of both of these events. Thank you to our counselors and staff in the Student Service Center for all of the work that was put into organizing this. Our KSS orchestra did a wonderful job performing in their Spring concert. Tuesday, March 26, seniors have a mandatory senior meeting in the KSS auditorium during academy, be sure to attend.

Next week is a great time to check in with teachers on missing assignments and work that can still be completed over Spring break. Friday, March 29, is a half day, school is dismissed at 11:00 a.m. There is no school on April 1-5 for Spring break.

The lost and found is once again overflowing with sweatshirts, lunch boxes, water bottles and more. Be sure to check the tables and racks outside of the main office before Spring break to reclaim your personal belongings. We will be donating the remaining items to Kitsap Stand Up For Kids March 29th. Have a great weekend Klahowya.

Attendance/Tardies/Early Dismissals

Attendance: Regular and prompt attendance is essential to the learning process. If your child will be late or cannot attend school due to illness or family emergency, please call our 24-hour attendance line at (360) 662-4031. Information regarding our attendance policy is available on the Klahowya website. Early Dismissals: We ask that you notify us atleast 30 minutes in advance when requesting an early dismissal. With the nice weather, our classes will often be outside taking advantage of the sunshine and it is challenging to get them in the office quickly. Thank you, Ms. T. your attendance secretary. Seniors Your Mandatory Meeting is March 26th!

There is a MANDATORY senior meeting on Tuesday, March 26th in the auditorium from 10:40-11:10. Cap & Gown pick up will directly follow this meeting. Check Google Classroom for a newsletter with all upcoming dates and important information regarding graduation and prom. Please see Ms. Watland if you have any questions.

A representative from CWU will be here on Monday, MAR 25 during Academy. Juniors, sign up to attend the visit and start learning about colleges!

KSS Running Start Info Sessions

Have you considered applying to Olympic College's Running Start program for 2024-2025?
Are you a current 10th or 11th grader who is on track with high school credits?
Do you have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 - 3.0?

If you answered YES to each of these questions, please attend one of the KSS Running Start information sessions that will be held on the following dates in Room 125:

APR 10
APR 13
APR 17
APR 20

Counselors will provide students with an overview and answer your questions.

Course Selection for 2024-25 School Year

Course Selection Forms WITH GUARDIAN SIGNATURE are DUE and students will enter courses in PowerSchool during class on their assigned date:

Current 8th grade—Monday, March 25 in Science
Current 9th grade—Tuesday, March 26 in English
Current 10th grade—Wednesday, March 27 in English
Current 11th grade—Thursday, March 28 in English

Our current 6th and 7th grade students will be selecting courses in April after Spring Break. Information coming soon!

World Language Proficiency Test for CKSD Students

Test Date: April 17th

Registration Closes: March 27th

Can you fluently read, write, speak, and listen in a language other than English?

If you are a student in grades 7 through 12 in Central Kitsap School District, you can earn high school credit in a world language by successfully passing district-approved assessments and demonstrating your language proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in the language. Assessments are available for many different world languages, and every effort will be made to provide assessments in any language requested.

Lost and Found

Students, time to check the lost and found to pick up your long lost items! All of the clothes, bags and other items are displayed on tables by the main office and will remain there from March 18th through March 28th. Be sure to pick up your belongings before they are donated to Stand Up For Kids Kitsap.

Class of 2028 Merchandise Fundraiser

Don't miss out on your chance to purchase Class of 2028 merchandise! All T-shirt/Hoodie/sticker sales directly support the Class of 2028, inclulding the FREE 8th grade Dance in June. Middle School Cross Country

The MS Cross Country Season is off to a great start...and it's not too late to sign up. Come join us as we run the beautiful trails that surround our school. All paces are welcome!
