Schedule Change Process
Dear Klahowya Students and Families,
We are so excited to welcome everyone to Klahowya for the 2026–27 school year! We are also excited to begin the year with our new calendar and half-day “slow start,” giving us time to focus on welcoming students, building community, and what it means to be our KIND of school.
A Small Change to the Schedule Process
To better support students at the start of the year, our counselors will be out in the school welcoming and getting to know students, rather than spending the first days of school processing schedule change requests.
To make this possible while ensuring all schedule requests are still reviewed, we are adjusting the timing of our schedule change process:
The Schedule Change Request Form will still open Tuesday, September 1 at 7:00 a.m. and close on Tuesday, September 8 at 2:30 p.m.
While the form will be available during this time, requests will be reviewed only after the form closes. No regular schedule changes will be made, and students will not receive responses to their requests, before September 8.
No Need to Worry About Falling Behind
We know waiting for a schedule change response may feel stressful, but students will not fall behind academically by waiting. The first week is intentionally focused on community building, relationships, and getting settled. Regular academic learning and classwork will begin during the week of September 8.
Emergent Issues Will Be Addressed
We will still be addressing immediate scheduling problems during the first week, such as:
No class scheduled for a particular period
Two classes scheduled during the same period
If their schedule says “See Counselor”
All other schedule change requests will be reviewed after the September 8 deadline.
What Requests Will Be Considered?
Counselors will consider requests only for:
A core class the student has already completed (not PE)
A missing core class: English, Social Studies, Math, or Science
A missing graduation requirement (Juniors and Seniors only)
There will not be any academy changes!
Honors, AP, and CiHS Course Drops: Students requesting to drop an Honors, AP, or CiHS course (or a middle school student taking a high-school-credit bearing course) will not use the Schedule Change Request Form. These requests follow a separate process.
Students must first meet with their teacher to discuss their concerns and possible supports. If the teacher and student determine that the course may not be the right fit, the teacher will initiate the course-drop process, which requires teacher, guardian, and administrator approval. Once that process is complete, students can work with their counselor regarding any resulting schedule needs.
After September 8
If a change cannot be made, your counselor will email you with an explanation.

Our goal is to begin the year focused on students, relationships, and community while ensuring every student is appropriately scheduled and supported. Students, please check your CKSD student email regularly after September 8. If a change can be made, it will be updated in PowerSchool. Thank you! We can't wait to see you!
