KSS Summer News
Dear Parents/Guardians,

We would like to welcome you, or welcome you back, to Klahowya Secondary School and to the 2021-22 school year! This year we are excited to fully open the campus and welcome all students back to the Eagle’s nest!

As we reopen school, we will be focusing on safety with the lingering effects from the Covid-19 pandemic. For more information please visit our district website HERE

Additionally, our school will continue to focus on building hope and resilience in our students. We want our students to know that we believe in them and they can accomplish anything with hard work. We are honored to have your family as a member of our school and we are looking forward to partnering with you in your child’s education.

Summer Office Hours: The KSS Office will open on Aug. 16th. Hours are from 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM until August 31st.

The school will be open for self guided tours.

In addition, Peninsula Community Health Services will be on campus and our clinic will be open from 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM for sports physicals and other needs. If you would like to schedule an appointment, please call Peninsula Community Health at 360-377-3776.

All students, staff and family members must wear masks to attend Flight Path and we will provide a mask to anyone who needs one. We appreciate your patience as we will also be monitoring event capacity for social distancing purposes.

Pandemic Safety: As all students, staff and families return to campus, we must observe the state order requiring face coverings in K-12 schools (for both unvaccinated and vaccinated students and staff). Compliance with this order is required, and is not at the discretion of local school districts.

Additionally, we will maintain physical distance of three feet between students in classroom settings to the degree possible and reasonable. This will depend on students’ ages, developmental and physical abilities, and available space. None of the state’s recommendations are meant to prevent us from offering full-time, in-person learning.

Athletics: Athletic paperwork is required to participate in sports at Klahowya. We use a service called Final Forms for easy, online registration. CKSD has waived athletic fees for the 2021-22 school year. Student athletes are still required to purchase an ASB card prior to participating in sports. Students and families who qualify for free or reduced meals may request to share this information for the purpose of reduced fees (including ASB Cards). Here are the steps:

  1. Apply for free/reduced meals here:

  2. Once you have received notification for free or reduced meal eligibility, you will receive a link via email to share your information. This step must be completed. If you have any questions, please contact Child Nutrition Services at 360-662-1090.

Volunteering: We have an outstanding group of volunteers and are always looking to increase volunteer involvement in our school. All volunteers need to complete a volunteer application and disclosure form that is returned to the KSS office with a copy of your driver’s license. This packet can be obtained in the KSS office throughout the school year and will also be available at Flight Path. Returning volunteers need to complete and submit this packet every two years.

Medicine at School: In order for students to take medication at school, we must have a current Physician’s Form and signature on file. Forms are available in the main office. Parents may bring a one-month supply of medication. Parents must bring in all medications.

Forms Update: Good news! CK Schools now offers online demographic verification for current families and registration for new families. Our online form provides step-by-step instructions and the ability to save your progress and return when you are ready. All families enrolled during the spring of 2021 were sent an email last May/June with a “snapcode” that allows you to review and update your demographic information. We appreciate your help in completing this process as soon as possible.
