A message from Principal McDaniel

Hello Klahowya Families and Students,

Conferences start next week.  If you haven't signed up for a Parent/Student/Teacher conference, please use this link (https://ptcfast.com/schools/KlahowyaSecondarySchool) to select which teacher(s) you wish to have a 10-12 minute in-person or Zoom meeting with.  As a reminder, there is no school for students on Thursday October 21st and Friday October 22nd.

Homecoming festivities have begun and continue next week up until our Homecoming Cosmic Karaoke and Games event Saturday night starting at 7 PM until 9 PM.  It's great to see so much school spirit in our hallways and classrooms and we look forward to seeing our high school students dressed up for the Homecoming Cosmic Karaoke and Games.!

SBA testing continues on Tuesday and Wednesday with ELA for students in grades 6, 7, 8, 9, 11 & 12.  SBA Mathematics will wrap up the SBA season October 26.  Make sure students are rested and ready for testing success.

As fall sports are winding down, we wanted to congratulate all of our Klahowya Student-Athletes.  Currently in high school sports, our girls soccer team is currently ranked 2nd in the state by the WIAA RPI ranking system and our girls cross country is currently ranked fifth in the state.  Our football team is currently in 2nd place in the Nisqually league with key league games coming up.  Our volleyball team has had some great games and always competing in all of their games and are in 6th place in the league.  Our boys tennis team is currently in third place in the league and has some key match ups with the league leading schools.  In middle school sports, our fastpitch team has won every game this fall and our track team has shown a lot of growth, even with the late start to the track program.  Great job Eagles and remember to finish strong and always compete with class.

Go Eagles!
Scott McDaniel

Want More Money and More Options? Get More Education Beyond High School.

Even in uncertain times, you can secure a better future . A college degree, certificate, or other training beyond high school can lead to a good job, higher wages, and more. And financial aid helps make college or training affordable.

Why apply for college or training? Adults with a college degree or certificate:

  • Are more likely to enjoy their work.
  • Can change careers more easily.
  • Are less likely to be unemployed.
  • Live longer, healthier lives.
  • Earn around $1 million more over their career than high school graduates.

Need to start working sooner than later? Move beyond minimum wage with an apprenticeship or other job training. Even a one-year program at a community college or technical college can increase your future earnings. And in an apprenticeship, you earn while you learn. In many cases, apprentices can get paid to work and use financial aid to cover out-of-pocket costs like tuition, fees, and materials.

Put your passion to work. More education means more job stability and higher earnings. For life.

Learn more and plan your future on the Washington Student Achievement Council website.

Parent/Student/Teacher conferences are next week. We are excited to partner with you regarding your student's learning and look forward to seeing you in conferences!

We are offering both in-person and virtual conference options for families. Staff will be at Klahowya Secondary School to meet with parents and students if you prefer an in-person meeting. If you would like to meet in a virtual manner, Zoom meeting instructions will be sent with your appointment confirmation. Families do not need a Zoom account and can use a cell phone or a school Chromebook to participate in conferences. Each conference will last around 10-12 minutes and we would like students to attend the conference. This year we are scheduling conferences using the PTCFast (Parent Teacher Conference) software. This allows families to schedule multiple conference appointments on-line. This is especially handy if you have multiple students enrolled in our school!

Setting up a Klahowya Parent, Student, Teacher conference

  1. If you know your student’s schedule, skip to step 2 otherwise you will need to look up your student’s teachers in PowerSchool: http://ps.cksd.wednet.edu/public/  If you do not have a PowerSchool Parent Access account set up, or start here to create an account.
  2. Conference sign-ups are scheduled through PTC Fast and are located here:  https://ptcfast.com/schools/KlahowyaSecondarySchool
  3. Select a teacher, then pick an available time to set up your conference.  An email will be sent to the email you provide with instructions for your conference.

Instructions on how to access Zoom via CKSD Chromebooks can be found HERE. If you have any problems, please contact the main office at 360-662-4003.

"Incomplete" Grade

If your son/daughter has any incompletes from the 19-20 and/or 20-21 school year and you would like information about how he/she can recover this credit, please sign up for a Conference with Catherine Pitcher our Academic Dean:  https://ptcfast.com/schools/KlahowyaSecondarySchool

A Note from Attendance

A Note TO Attendance is the quickest most efficient way to get absences excused, early dismissal and bus passes.  Students should bring the note to the Main Office when they arrive at school. If it is a school sponsored event, sporting events, testing, field trips, etc., the school will take care of these absences and parent/guardian excuse is not required.

Tickets for our Homecoming Cosmic Games & Karaoke are on sale now through October 20. Grades 9 - 12 can stop by the bookkeepers office to sign a contract and pay for your ticket. Tickets are $12 with ASB / $15 without. Due to limited capacity we are only allowing KSS students.  We are looking forward to seeing all of our high school students dressed up that evening. Event is October 23rd 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.

Striving for Success

As we strive to make your students’ year successful, here are some ideas to help students learn responsibility and help us limit classroom interruptions.

Have them make sure they have everything before they leave school for the day. A list by the door is a big help.

  • Let students pack their belongings the night before.
  • Have them place their water bottle and any snacks or lunch in their backpack or bag before they leave home.
  • When they return home, have them bring out any papers that need to be signed, their planner and their homework.

If you need to bring something for your student, please let your child know that they are to pick it up at the Main Office between classes, during lunch or after school. Having them pick up items during a class period, causes disruption, as we have to interrupt the education of an entire class to deliver the pass.

Free lunch is provided to all students. If a student forgets their lunch, food is available. Uber and restaurant food is not allowed.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call us 360-662-4000.
