ONLINE CALENDAR

Dear Klahowya Families and Students,

SBA/WCAS testing begins next week May 16. Students will take the tests online using their district issued Chromebook (personal devices will not work). Our school is scheduled to take the tests during regular class periods on the following days:

Mathematics – Grades 6-8 & 10 - May 16-17 & 23-24
English – Grades 6-8 & 10 - May 18-19 & 25-27

The WCAS Science exam will be taken by students in Grades 8 & 11 on Friday, May 20 in the Gym:

Science – Grade 8 in the morning -- Grade 11 in the afternoon

Students are encouraged to bring a wired set of earbud headphones for testing. (Wireless headphones are not allowed.) If students do not have access to headphones, a set will be provided to them. Students may also choose to bring and use a mouse for their Chromebook during testing.

Klahowya Athletics

The regular season may be coming to a close, but we still have many teams and players involved in post season play.

Congrats to our Girls Tennis players who made it to league play this week. Aleah Catt, Ruby Hobbs, Ella Koebelin, Mia Spandler, Sophia Mayes, Paige Spandler.

Congrats to our Golfers who will participate in league play Tuesday 5/17 (Boys) Dylan Michael, Leon Ly, Robbie Slater, Chris Beach, Carter Parypa, Preston Stahl

(Girls) on 5/18 Jorgie Neshem, Makayla Meehan, Tori Peters, Daniella Garvin, Hannah Solvie , Myah Nelson.

Track and Field will be at Vashon HS Saturday to compete in league championship.

Baseball is playing Round 2 tonight at Foss HS (Friday 5/13 5:45 p.m.)

Softball will begin their playoff run next week (TBD)

Congratulations to ALL of our Klahowya Spring Athletes for showing up no matter the weather and playing hard.

Over the next few weeks our school is honored to host a couple of guest speakers who will be working with students in all grade levels. We believe these speakers will inspire students and will help our school build community and relationships within our student body.

On Monday May 16th and Tuesday May 17th, James Layman with the Association of Washington Student Leaders (AWSL) will be at Klahowya to work with our students. AWSL is the same organization that provides training to our (and all Washington State public school) student Leaders and ASB Officers. This presentation is highly engaging and is in a workshop model where 3 classes of students will work with Mr. Layman each period. Middle School students will complete the workshop during science class on May 16th. High School students will complete the workshop during science class on May 17th.

The focus of these workshops will be on:

Treating Others Well
Building Community
Developing Culture and Climate for next year

On Thursday June 2nd, Cam Awesome will visit Klahowya with an inspirational message of resilience and hope. He will speak to students in grades 6-8 during an assembly from 7:55-9:00 am. Hello College Bound Seniors,

A great opportunity is on the horizon. The first annual West Sound College Mixer event is scheduled for Monday, May 23rd at Bremerton High School from 6-8 p.m.. In addition to student breakout sessions with college reps, there will also be a parent panel session to discuss the transition to college from the parent perspective. Dinner will be provided. See the flyer for more information.

We are bringing back the KSS Talent Show! Do you have a special talent - maybe you play an instrument, love to sing, juggle, or do magic tricks? Audition for the Talent Show on Monday, May 23rd! Auditions will happen after school in the auditorium from 2:35 - 4pm on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Talent Show will be on Friday, June 3rd at 6:30pm.

Don't miss the opportunity to catch up on your assignments while you have the chance. Come to Saturday Study Hall tomorrow, May 14th, 8:00 a.m. - noon. It's going to rain this weekend. Study Saturday so you can enjoy the sunshine next weekend.

High School AVID students selected Ms. Tresch for AVID Teacher of the Month for April and May. Through a variety of classroom activities and lesson plans that are relevant to students, Ms. Tresch engages students to prepare them for college eligibility and success.
