A message from Principal McDaniel

Hello Klahowya Students and Families,

Many of you may have seen the news from our School Board and our Superintendent... We are excited to announce that students will be returning to campus soon! Beginning on April 12th, we will bring back two grade levels for in-person learning (2 days a week), followed shortly by all other grades on April 19th. More information will be sent soon regarding the first grade levels to return.

As you can imagine, in order to keep staff and students safe, there will be many changes to our normal operational procedures. Our ability to follow health and safety guidelines together will increase our success in keeping in-person instruction moving forward. Please refer to Central Kitsap School District’s Remote + In-Person Family Guidebook 2020-21 School Year Family Guide

Students will attend either Monday/Tuesday or Thursday/Friday depending on the assigned cohort. Wednesdays will continue to be remote learning for all students. Students with last names beginning with A-K are assigned to Cohort A and scheduled for in-person learning on Monday and Tuesday. Students with last names beginning with L-Z are assigned to Cohort B and scheduled for in-person learning on Thursday and Friday.

We know that some families may need to request a cohort change due to childcare or transportation issues. If you need to make a change to your child’s cohort due to childcare or transportation needs, please fill out this FORM . If we have space available in your requested cohort, we will make the change and notify you ASAP, but no later than 3/31.
We will continue to send you weekly updates with additional information on our return to school plans, including our arrival and dismissal plans, daily schedule, COVID protocols, and other information that you will need to prepare for your child for in-person learning. Thank you for your patience and support as we continue to partner with you during this pandemic.

Thank you,
Scott McDaniel
Principal

Wellness Corner

How many problems come up in a day? Small or big. Out of toothpaste, now what? I need to get gas, will I have enough time before work? I am hungry, what am I going to eat? If you think about it, you might get tired. We problem solve so many times in a day that we almost do it without thinking. That is not true, though. The truth is, we've had these things happen so many times that we can solve them in seconds. If they haven't happened before, we follow the same routine of how to problem solve AND use our past experiences to help.
How do we teach this to a kid who opens the fridge door and says there's no milk, when you know good and well you just bought a carton yesterday? We just need to practice and practice running through the problem solving steps.
