Hello Klahowya Families and Students,
As we begin our three-day weekend in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, I must thank you for your amazing students! To honor Dr. King's work, many Klahowya students chose to write notes of appreciation to members of our school.I am impressed with their kindness and consideration...we are so lucky to have your student at our school!
As we near the end of the semester, there are several important dates that you need to know. Our School Board met this week and approved a calendar adjustment to make up the school days that were missed due to snow. As a result, we now have school on Friday, January 28th. This also means that the end of Semester 1 has moved to Friday, January 28th. Please see several important dates below:
- Semester 2 Schedules posted electronically for students in PowerSchool on 1/24/22
- End of Semester, Friday 1/28/22
- Beginning of Semester 2, Monday 1/31/22
- Paper Report Cards go home with students on 2/11/22
As we near the end of the term, we want all students to end with their best academic effort. Earlier today we sent an electronic progress report home to all students in grades 9-12 with current grades and academic supports. Additionally, we also mailed a paper progress report to all families with students in grade 6-12 and we believe these will arrive this weekend. Our hope is to help as many studentsas possible to finish the term with passing grades.
Our school will be on a modified schedule during the week of January 24 - 28th to allow for Semester Finals. School start and end times remain on the normal times. Please see our schedule below.
Additionally, we are seeing some changes at the end of semester 1. Due to limited attendance, after school tutoring and activity buses on Monday through Wednesday will stop operating at the end of semester 1. Our last tutoring session and activity bus will occur on Wednesday, January 26th.
Lastly - we know that many of our families are currently impacted by Covid. If you student cannot make it into school, please have them check their Google Classroom for work. They can also email their teachers to ensure they stay caught up in class.
We must all work together to keep our school open and to keep everyone healthy. At this point we do not anticipate that we will need to close our school. If this were to occur, it would be for a few days, and you would be notified in a similar manner to a weather closure. If our school had to operate on a virtual model, students would attend classes through Google Meets and would be on our regular bell schedule. This means that teachers would be teaching live through Google meets for 30-55 minutes each period. Our hope is that we will not need to use the virtual model.
To help keep school happening in person, if your student is showing any symptoms of Covid, please keep them home and call the Klahowya main office at 360-662-4000. Additionally, this week our Test to Stay program was broadened to include Close Contacts identified from an exposure that occurred outside of school. If your student is a Close Contact, please call our office so that we can discuss options to support your student.
Once again, we appreciate having your student at our school. GO EAGLES!
