Hello Klahowya Families,

We welcome you to Klahowya Secondary School and to the 2022-23 school year! We hope you had a rejuvenating summer and that you were able to enjoy time with family and friends. We are excited to see our students and families return to school and are optimistic that this will be a more normal year filled with fun and school spirit!

As students return to school this year, they may see many new faces around the school. We have been working hard this summer to hire over 20 new staff members to support student learning efforts! This year our school willcontinue to focus on building hope and resilience in our students. We want our students to know that we believe in them, and they can accomplish anything with hard work. We are honored to have your family as a member of our school, and we are looking forward to partnering with you in your child’s education.

Flight Path will be on Thursday August 25th from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.:

Students will pick up a list of scheduled classes and get their school photo taken by Olympic Photo Group (picture information). Take this opportunity to find out about clubs, activities, & athletics, and sign up for PTSA. The school will be open for self guided tours.

To avoid waiting in line during Flight Path, you may pay for items such as ASB cards and yearbooks online. Go to https://wa-centralkitsap.intouchreceipting.com/. To login, your child’s student number is the user name and your child’s last name (with the first letter capitalized) is the password.

In addition, during Flight Path, Peninsula Community Health Services will be on campus and our clinic will be open from 12:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. for sports physicals and other needs. If you would like to schedule an appointment, please call Peninsula Community Health at 360-377-3776.

Schedule Pickup:Schedules will be available at Flight Path. If students cannot attend Flight Path, they may stop by the Main Office between August 26 - Sept. 6th. Student schedules and picture make-ups will be available on the first day of school on September 7th.


Where Eagles Belong (WEB):Training for 8th Grade WEB Leaders is on September 1st & 2nd from 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. There is no transportation provided for these training days.

6th Grade WEB Dayfor all incoming 6th grade students is on Tuesday, September 6th from 8:15-1:00 p.m. Transportation will be provided from feeder elementary schools. Bus schedule for this event will be avaliable at Flight Path, August 25th.

First Day of School Wednesday, September 7, 2022 7:50 a.m.—2:35 p.m.

Counselor Availability:As you can imagine, this is a very busy time for counselors working with families new to the area and working with the schedule to prepare for the upcoming year. If you need to see one of our school counselors, please contact our counseling office at 360-662-4040 to schedule an appointment.

School Hours: The first bell rings at 7:40 AM and class begins at 7:50 AM. On Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday, the school day ends at 2:35 PM. On Thursday early release, the school day ends at 1:05 PM. The first Thursday of the school year (Thursday, September 8th) is not an early release.

School Pictures:Student pictures will be held during Flight Path on August 25th. You may prepay for school photos at the following link:www.olympicphotogroup.com/prepay

Open House/Orientation: Students and parents/guardians are invited to come to KSS for Open House on Thursday, September 15th at 6:00 PM.Open House is a great opportunity to get to know your school while meeting your child’s teachers and finding out more regarding curriculum and expectations.

2022-2023 Information

Student Self Drivers:Students who drive themselves to school must complete a KSS Student Parking contract. The form is available on this link https://klahowya.ckschools.org/info/parkingStudents must display a parking placard to park on campus and these will be distributed at Flight path. If students self-drive and do not complete a parking contract and display an approved placard, they may receive a parking ticket.

Activity Buses:Due to expiring federal and state funding, we do not anticipate having activity buses this year.

Forms Update:Good news! CK Schools now offers online demographic verification for current families and registration for new families. Our online form provides step-by-step instructions and the ability to save your progress and return when you are ready. All families enrolled during the spring of 2022 were sent an email last May/June with a “snapcode” that allows you to review and update your demographic information. We appreciate your help in completing this process as soon as possible.

Attendance: Regular and prompt attendance is essential to the learning process. If your child will be late or cannot attend school due to illness or family emergency, please call our 24-hour attendance line at (360) 662-4030.

Parent Access:Parent Access allows you to see live attendance, scheduling, and grading information for your child. Additionally, you can sign up for weekly grade updates and read the daily bulletin on this site. You can find Parent Access at the following link: http://ps.cksd.wednet.edu/public

Lunch Information: Students will return to paying for lunches during the 2022-2023 school year. We are also moving to a new payment system for lunches. A food service account is automatically set up for every child once they enroll at CKSD. Parents may track their student's meal charging activity and will make payments to their account online at https://family.titank12.com/ Please find out more information on this system and you can find menus here: https://ckschools.org/school_info/lunch___breakfast

School Supplies: A supply list can be accessed on our website at: https://klahowya.ckschools.org/. Additionally, we will be providing all students with a KSS planner, free of charge! There is a $5.00 charge for a replacement. If students need supplies, please attend Flight Path or talk with our counseling department as we are happy to assist in filling this need.

Athletics:Athletic registration is required to participate in sports at Klahowya. We use a service called Final Forms for easy, online registration. Families will be asked to create an account, with options to register more than one student. Please visit our Athletic Registration page for the link to Final Forms. High School Fall sports include Boys Tennis, Cross Country, Football, Girls Soccer, Girls Swim and Girls Volleyball. High School Football begins August 17, and all other HS Fall sports begin August 22nd. Middle School Fall sports begin on September 7th and include Track & Field for grades 6th, 7th, & 8th and Fastpitch for 7th & 8th grade girls. CKSD has waived athletic fees for the 2022-23 school year. Student athletes are still required to purchase an ASB card prior to participating in sports. ASB cards are $30 for Middle School and $50 for High School. Students and families who qualify for free or reduced meals may request to share this information for the purpose of reduced fees (including ASB Cards). Here are the steps:

  • Apply for free/reduced meals here: https://family.titank12.com/
  • Once you have received notification for free or reduced meal eligibility, you will receive a link via email to share your information. This step must be completed. If you have any questions, please contact Child Nutrition Services at 360-662-1090. http://www.ckschools.org

Volunteering:We have an outstanding group of volunteers and are always looking to increase volunteer involvement in our school. All volunteers need to complete a volunteer application and disclosure form that is returned to the KSS office with a copy of your driver’s license (front and back). This packet can be found online or obtained in the KSS office throughout the school year and will also be available at Flight Path. Returning volunteers need to complete and submit this packet every two years.

Medicine at School: In order for students to take any medication at school, we must have a current Physician’s Form and signature on file. Forms are available in the main office. Parents may bring a one-month supply of medication. Parents must bring in all medications.
