Ahhhh, graduation. They worked hard. They reached a goal. It seems like it went on FOREVER, but it was really just a short blip. A short blip that taught them how to be a kid. Taught them how to be a learner. Taught them how to interact with others. Taught them small bits about being responsible. Now they'll wake up and feel like they're ready to be an adult. Literally. But they have no idea this is just the first step. So, celebrate their accomplishment AND don't let them stop there. Let this be the first of many big accomplishments. Help them know there is more life and learning AFTER graduation. Teach them that one thing about being an adult is reaching and setting goals. Teach them to be SMART.

SAP Wellness

April 20th is what many in the cannabis culture call their ‘holiday’- often referred to as four-twenty. 420, as it is referred to in the media, is the day and time to get high on marijuana or other drugs.
Although most youth choose not to use marijuana, there could be some who choose to use on this commercialized day; staying diligent to policies around no substance use can protect your student. 420 does fall on a school day this year and can have significant impacts on a youth's educational growth. Marijuana has long-term impacts on brain development such as impaired memory, learning challenges, and less impulse control compared to youth who never used marijuana.
Please discourage use of the 420 references in your home. If your student might be under the influence or you are concerned they are, please reach out to the Student Assistance Professional, Alixaundrea Poli (alixaundreap@ckschools.org/360-519-4133 ). With proper support, and a strong culture of no substance use, we can guide our students to a healthier and substance-free future.
