A message from Principal McDaniel

Hello Klahowya Students and Families,

This week we were excited to welcome students back to the building in all grade levels! Our staff was extremely excited to see students in person and it was great to hear students back in our hallways. More importantly, it was great to see students being able to connect with each other at school!

Here are a couple of reminders for all families:

  • School hours are from 10:00 am - 1:15 pm on Monday & Tuesday (A Cohort) or Thursday & Friday (B Cohort).
  • Doors to the building open at 9:45 am.
  • Students may opt to stay for our Academic Help and Activity/Club time from 1:15-2:15 on days they attend school.
  • Athletic study hall will occur from 2:15 - 3:30 pm for High School athletes who are waiting to attend practices.

As a reminder, if families would like to request a change to their cohort group, please submit your request HERE. If your student will remain at home, we appreciate you letting us know on this form. (If you are asking to change days, we will call to let you know if your request is able to be approved.)

To help students and families with the return to school, we have created a presentation and a website for families that has information to help with the transition back to campus. Here is a link to our presentation for families regarding the return to school. Please also feel free to visit this site to find our schedule and other information.

On last reminder.... Klahowya is running after school Academic Support and Clubs/Activities from 1:15-2:15 each day after school. Students may only attend if they are scheduled to be at school on that day. Please check out a list of our offerings HERE .

Have a wonderful weekend,
Scott McDaniel

I'm guessing we aren't the only one's who use this term.  Peace out is what we say when we are leaving.  In this case we're talking about when your kids finally decide, sometimes with a push from you, to move out of the family home.  Some kids are very excited to leave home and be on their own.  No adults.  No bedtime.  No having to clean if they don't want to.  It can be a glorious time.  As Eleanor Roosevelt said, with freedom comes responsibility.  Let's help prepare our kids to be responsible AND have fun.  Sound a little nerdy?  Probably.  Setting them up for success is always the best move (pun intended).

Peace Out (CKSD Family Wellness Site Link)

The Student Assistance Program is offering a Grief Support Group starting May 5th for grades 9-12. This group will cover a range of topics surrounding grief, resiliency, and sharing memories. The death of a friend or loved one can impact individuals in many ways, but even though each relationship is different, the stages of grief are similar. Grief support group will help show participants that they are not alone, while gaining support from peers. We will engage in a range of activities that will hopefully bring healing, reflection, and find ways for meaningful connection with passed loved ones. Group is a safe and confidential space.

The Student Assistance Program offers groups and services completely free to students and families.

If you know of a student that may benefit from participating in the Grief Support Group or have more questions; please contact the Student Assistance Professional, Alixaundrea Poli (360/519-4133, alixaundreap@ckschools.org).
