World History Learning Targets
- Understand and analyze historical time, chronology, and important events (why did things happen when they happened and why is it important) from the Ancient World – 1600(Unit I-II-III); 1600-Present (Unit III-IV-V)
- Understand events, trends, individuals, and movements shaping World History
- Understand and examine the influence of culture on the World
- Understand the origin and impact of ideas and technological developments and how they influence(d) people, culture, and environment
In accordance with the above targets by the end of 2nd semester, the student should be able to do the following:
- Choose 3 of the following and, using specific events and individuals, explain:
- How did the Agricultural Revolution impact the lives of people (Unit I)
- How did trade between societies influence their development (Unit I)
- What patterns were demonstrated by classical empires (Greek, Roman, Chinese, etc) (Unit I)
- What interactions took place in the Mediterranean basin that had lasting impacts in the time period 1000 B.C.E to 600 C.E (Unit I)
- Why was the collapse of classical empires in the West more devastating than their collapse in the East (Unit I-II)
- Choose 3 of the following and, using specific events and individuals, explain:
- How the Enlightenment resulted in revolutions, such as the American and French(Unit IV)
- How the Enlightenment and Scientific Revolution led to industrialization(Unit III-IV)
- How European Exploration led to European Imperialism (Unit III-IV)
- How Imperialism helped lead to World War I (Unit IV)
- How World War I led to World War II (Unit V)
- Impact on the contemporary world by the end of World War II and the Cold War ( Unit V)
- Choose 3 of the following and, using specific events and individuals, explain their impact
- Tokugawa Japan(Unit III-IV)
- Ming China(Unit II-III)
- British Rule in India (Unit IV-V)
- Nation Building in Latin America & Africa (Unit IV-V)
- Russian Revolution (Unit V)
- The Holocaust (Unit V)
- Communist Revolution in China (Unit V)

- Advances in Medicine (Unit III-IV-V)
