Hello Klahowya Families,
With conferences concluding last week, I would like to begin by thanking you for your involvement! Our staff truly appreciated the opportunity to meet with you during conferences! To further collect your input, all families are invited to attend the Klahowya Strategic Planning meeting in the Klahowya Library on Thursday, November 17th from 6:00-7:30 p.m. During this meeting, we will solicit input from you regarding our school and district.
Please don't forget that there is no school on Friday, November 11th in recognition of Veterans Day. To commemorate this event, we are holding a Veteran's Day Assembly on Wednesday, November 9th during academy (school is on the regular schedule). We thank our Veterans and their families for their service!
This is a busy time for our students....Congratulations to all of our Fall athletes! Fall Middle school sports have concluded and High School District and State competitions are currently underway. We wish our best to our athletes during these competitions! Additionally, in the next couple of weeks, Klahowya is pleased to present the production of "Little Shop of Horrors." This student production will run over two weekends and features an amazing cast!
If you didn't catch the announcement about GoGuardian for families, I would like to highlight this tool for you. This App allows you to view internet use history, set time usage and limit website access for students while they are on their school Chromebook while at home. When parents make changes to this app, it changes the settings during non-school hours to give you more control of ChromeBooks while students are at home. More information about this program can be found HERE.
Lastly, as the rain and cold weather returns, I would like to give a few reminders about possible changes to our school schedule if inclement weather rolls in. If the decision is made to move to a 2-hour delay or a cancellation, this notification is sent home via an automated phone dialer. It is also posted on our school website, social media accounts and is submitted to local news organizations. If the weather is below freezing, or if we have any snow, please check to ensure that we are operating on a normal schedule before you head to those bus stops.
Thank you for your partnership in our school. We have amazing students and families here at Klahowya!

Students… It is not only a district expectation, but a personal responsibility to bring a fully charged Chromebook to school EVERY day. Please create habits that will make you successful and prevent our librarian from being grouchy! We are also announcing our contest for the month of November. If every student brings a fully charged Chromebook to school every day between now and November 10th, the school district has allowed us to take the 11th off! Let’s do this!
Quarter 1 ends on Monday, November 14th for the 6th grade rotation classes. Beginning on Tuesday, November 15th, 6th graders will begin their new rotation class.

Every year Central Kitsap School District must apply for Federal Impact Aid funds from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds compensate CKSD for the loss of local tax dollars from tax exempt federal property in the Silverdale and Bremerton area.
CKSD must conduct a federal residence and employment survey on a yearly basis to obtain a current count of families in the district who live on/or work on federal property. The results of our Impact Aid survey help support our request for these federal funds. This survey is critical to our district’s resources for students. The results of our Impact Aid survey help support our request for these federal funds.
Please return your student’s Purple card ASAP or fill it out on-line https://www.ckschools.org/cms/one.aspx?portalid=11175&pageid=35098
If you have any issues accessing your account, email us at ImpactAid@ckschools.org.

Seniors! Fill out Your FAFSA!

FAFSA: https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa
WASFA: https://wsac.wa.gov/wasfa
Some states and schools have limited funds, so don’t delay!
Completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form allows you to be considered for federal student aid. In addition, states and colleges use FAFSA information to award their own grants, scholarships, and loans. But since aid is limited, you have to meet the deadlines! Each college may have its own deadline.

In complying with state law, students are expected to be present at school and on time to class.
Parents/guardians may call the attendance office 24 hours a day to report or excuse students’ absence. If leaving a message, clearly state:
- your student’s name
- your relationship to the student
- date(s) of absence
- reason(s) for absence (please share the specific reason for the absence — particularly if your child has flu or respiratory symptoms)
Students may also give the Attendance Office a written note (from parent/guardian) with the same information signed by a parent/guardian. A parent/guardian may also email the Attendance Office at TerriM@ckschools.org.
We have an automated call-out system that places a call in the evening to the homes of students who have missed one or more classes during the day.

Our new strategic plan will guide the future of our district for years to come—be part of it! Please join the Klahowya Secondary School Strategic planning session on Thursday, November 17th at 6:0 p.m. in the Klahowya Library.
