A message from Principal McDaniel

Hello Klahowya Students and Families,

As we begin 2nd semester, we hope that your family is healthy and that your student in engaged in learning for 2nd semester. We strongly encourage all students to establish a regular routine for school. For many students, a morning routine consists of eating breakfast, bathing, and dressing for school.  We also encourage all students to have a "school space" where they complete schoolwork. By establishing a school location in your residence, we find that students are much more engaged in learning!

1st Semester Grades are currently posted in PowerSchool and you should also receive a paper copy of 1st semester grades in the mail. Early next week we will be sending out information to students and families regarding incompletes issued during 1st semester.

Next week we will also send all our Seniors a progress check to ensure they are on the pathway to graduate at the end of the year.

To all of our High School students out there... please remember... if you received an incomplete during 1st semester in a yearlong class, the easiest way to resolve this incomplete is by finding success in 2nd Semester. For example.... If you received an incomplete in 1st semester Algebra, and you get a "B" in semester 2 Algebra... your 1st semester incomplete will change to a "C".

Please remember that we are here to support your family and your student in learning. If you need assistance, please reach out to us at 360-662-4000 so we can help.

Thank you,

Scott McDaniel

Counseling Corner

Believe it or not, we are gearing up for the 2021-2022 school year and course selection for next year is coming up soon! Students will select their courses March 3rd-12th. Course Selection Q&A Night will be held via Zoom on Wednesday, March 10th 6:00-7:00 for Middle School & 7-8 for High School. More information to come!

All Seniors and their families will be receiving a Credit Evaluation and Graduation Status Letter to their email and postal addresses. If you have any questions about graduation, please contact your counselor.

The deadline to submit photos to the yearbook has come and gone.  If you did not submit a photo, there is still a chance your picture can be included in this memorable yearbook.  Some pages are not yet ready for publication so there may still be time to get your photo submitted.  Find a comfortable spot, snap a picture and send it to Ms. Shaw | LaurieSh@ckschools.org

Hey Eagles,

Right now, yearbooks are not available for purchase.  It's a State requirement so we don't have to collect sales tax.  But you can buy a yearbook starting March 1st through the online payment system.  Be sure to buy your yearbook as soon as possible in March because quantities are limited.  If you have any questions, please contact Sharyl Torgerson at 360-662-4012 or sharylt@ckschools.org.

SAP Wellness Corner

This week is Children of Addiction Awareness Week (February 14th-20th). Did you know that 1 in 4 students live with parental addiction? The ability to have a caring competent supportive adult can create a positive impact on students. Children with addicted parents are the most vulnerable population to experience addiction themselves. Therefore, reaching out for support services can be beneficial to changing the course of a student's future.

The Student Assistance Program at Klahowya Secondary School is a safe space for students affected by parental addiction. The program has a trained professional that offers services and groups tailored to the individual needs of students affected by parental abuse.

If you are interested in more details about Children Addiction Awareness Week check out the National Association for Children of Addiction website.

If you need help for a student affected by parental addiction or need resources, please contact the Student Assistance Professional, Alixaundrea Poli (alixaundreap@ckschools.org/360.519.4133).

Don't forget to check our calendar of everything Senior. Please know because of Covid most things are TBD, but as soon as we know we will update the calendar. Senior Parent Link

Live Streaming Information

Competitions during Season 1 remain closed to spectators per league rules adopted in January. We are sorry that this causes inconvenience for families as we navigate athletics during this time of COVID precautions.

We are, however, happy to announce that our home competitions that occur on our Stadium Field and in our Main Gym can be seen live and free on the National federation of High Schools (NFHS) Network .

Below you will see the NFHS link to our new automated cameras. Though you see a “Subscribe” button in the top right portion of the home page for each school, you do not need to subscribe to watch CKSD events. That is for the NFHS wider menu of programs.

To watch an event, scroll down and choose one of the scheduled events. Please note that all the start times are listed in Eastern Standard Time, so you need to subtract three hours from the posted time . It will then ask you to “Sign in to watch”. If this is your first time signing in, you will need to create an account. The account is free.

PLEASE BE ADVISED : We are rolling this out for the first time, and there are likely to be bumps in the road along the way in providing this free service to families. We are streaming our home events only and will not be able to provide you information for road events.

Thank you for your understanding and encouraging your student athletes to do their best, not only in competitions, but in keeping safe by following the safety guidelines coaches and athletic administrators have given them.
